Our week at Chy an Holidays.

Hi Everyone, we have just spent a week down at our holiday home and wanted to share some of the wonderful things we have managed to do during our stay.

Eating Out

We have experienced some wonderful meals out over the course of the week, firstly we have been to our local beach café The Cabin, which is just a 10 minute walk from the cottage, for coffees and cakes or cream teas during the day and at the weekends it turns into The Tipsy Crab  where you can order woodfired pizzas on a Friday or on a Saturday experience their full menu which includes their legendary Cornish Crab Gratin or my favourite the Cornish crab and prawn linguine.

We have travelled to the neighbouring village of Goldsithney which is just a 10 minute drive up the road to The Crown and sampled their new street food menu or try their Newlyn Hake and chips which will fulfil even the hungriest of appetites. A true country pub with a warm welcome always awaits you.

Costal Walks

We have been on a few coastal walks all from our doorstep, the first a short circular walk which takes you around the back of the cottage and on to the coastal path going down to the beach and back through the village stopping off for a drink at The Victoria Inn and back home.  The next walk we completed was a half day walk over to Marazion again along the coastal path spending some time exploring the village and taking in the breath-taking views of St Michael’s Mount. There are so many walks available you are truly spoilt for choice, for that reason we leave an ordnance survey map of the area so you can take your pick of walks during your stay.  We will look at other walks in future blogs.

Towns Visited

We travelled to Penzance, just 5 miles from the cottage and experienced the large variety of independent shops that await you as well as walking along the Promenade which goes through to Newlyn and admiring the harbour full of the different boats moored up. Whilst in Penzance we paid a visit to Helly’s Bistro for more coffee and one morning the breakfast they offer.  Helly’s Bistro is situated opposite the main car park and is an ideal stop for either before you shop or to rest your weary feet after you have shopped.

We also went to the harbour town of Porthleven which again is full of interest and independent shops. Porthleven also offers an extensive range of Michelin star restaurants, cafés and pubs including The Ship Inn, which is a 17th century pub overlooking the picturesque harbour it is also the sister pub of our very own local The Victoria Inn.

Attractions Visited

We paid a visit to the award-winning Paradise Park in Hayle which is ideal for families or for any who has an interest in birds with so many activities and attractions to visit throughout the day.

There are so many different types of birds there, it’s a photographer’s dream, and they also have red panda’s. They have penguin feeding in which they will tell you all about the birds that they have there. Unfortunately, due to bird flu they didn’t ask for volunteers to help feed the penguins which Emma has done in the past, but they allowed the audience to ask questions. At around 3:15 there is a free flying bird show which you can see scarlet macaws’, owls and a few more birds. There is also a wonderful experience where you can feed the rainbow lorikeets with nectar, the birds come down and feed out of the pots in your hand, you might even be lucky enough to have one land on your head which happened to Emma. (insert picture) But don’t stand under the string in the middle as you may get a nasty shock.

All the keepers are very knowledgeable about the animals they have there and there is even a fun farm where they have a pet area with rabbits and Guinea pigs and goats which you can feed. The Jungle barn soft play is perfect for everyone from babies and toddlers to the parents who are kids at heart with a very steep drop slide and lots to do in this area it’s fun for the whole family.

This is just a snapshot of the many pleasures you can take advantage of during your stay and we will be highlighting many more on further blogs.
